Forever single?

I have had so many thoughts about this for a while now and I want to attempt to get out of my "writers block" mindset, so here goes nothing.

I consider myself to be a very intense thinker. I tend to over analyze people's comments about how I do things. To a certain extent, I think this is because I have assumed that my home experience is the same as how people get talked to in "life in the real world" and I attribute this to my relationship with my mom. This is a topic for another blog. When it comes to my self image, I tend to me my own worst enemy, it seems. In middle school through junior high, I had established enough confidence to have a decent conversation with guys, particularly ones that I had a crush on. I would call this the "friend zone". However, as I got older and continued with my homeschooling education, I kind of did the "one step forward, two steps backward" with friendships and conversations. I realize that this is quite a common pattern especially in this age range. Being the naturally shy person made me even more awkward and shy around guys continuing into my high school years. I don't know how many people who know me know that I repeated my sophomore year because my mom and I agreed that I "wasn't ready". This relates to my "development of self" in that as I was repeating my sophmore year, I was taking my education online, and this kind of blocked the rest of my development socially. Having said this, I do believe that the friends I made at church were a great blessing and helped to balance my social life. The first "real" experience with interaction with guys in a social environment was when I transferred partway through my junior year. My mom and I agreed that it would be good for me to get more social interaction and opportunities to explore some arts-related classes such as music, that I wouldn't have been able to have with just online. Transferring to a private Christian school was one of the best decisions of my life so far, if not my high school years. It was so scary to go from barely any interaction with people to seeing the same faces every day and not only that, but being able to have a trust built on shared faith. If I had gone to the local public school, finding people to connect with on a deeper level would be like finding a needle in a haystack. This is all to say that I am beyond grateful for the time I had at the high school I graduated from. Deciding where to go to continue my education after I graduated was another tough decision. When I finally decided to go to Edison, it was because of the closeness and thus, the ease of travel, and also the money would be more realistic. The topic of study for my degree was somewhat secondary. I think that if I had more resources and my circumstances were a little bit different at that time, I would have pursued a degree at a Christian college/university. I think this is because my faith is such an important part of my life. My time at Edison was interesting...(I graduated with a Medical Office Support Associates of Business). While I was there, I was focused on my classes and not so much the social activities that were available. It doesn't help that 99% of people that I talk to think that I am 17 or 18, or if I'm really lucky, 19 (Again, this is another topic for another blog). This "avoidance" of social activities prevented me from even further interaction with guys my age. Another thing to point out is that I didn't get my license til I was 21 and my first car I got when I was 20. Being dependent on my parents or other sources of transportation through my adolescent/young adult years limited my availability to go out and have fun.

This leads me to my main point of this whole blog. I have been wrestling with the thought of maybe being "forever single". This concept on some days makes my stomach turn, but on other days, I am at peace with it. I am not saying that I think it is likely that I won't find someone to spend the rest of my life with. It has just come to my attention that I am SO BEYOND the typical social development of my peers i.e. by this time (I'm 23) they have graduated from a 4 year college (I only did 2 to finish my degree, which is fine) and have through their college/university of choice or possibly from earlier friendships found a Godly guy to marry. Quite a few of them have started a family, as in, at least one kid, and a few have 2. I don't have a strong desire to marry or have a kid at this point in my life. Maybe this is the reason why I haven't developed any relationships that could possibly turn into marriage.

As my single life continues, I reflect on scripture that talks about finding fulfillment in Christ and that He is everything you need. I definitely think this has kept my head up through all of this overwhelming time. I begin to think about my life as a whole and how many times I have put my faith in Christ for things that I know without a doubt that I would fail without Him. As I learn to make this my focus and let it drive all of my decisions, I think that is when I am more at peace.

While I haven't discovered yet what it really means to let Christ be sufficient for all my needs, and while I know I won't ever "arrive" and know the full extent, I hope that I can bring up something that is not talked about enough, I think. Living the rest of my life single really doesn't sound all that bad if I am using my singleness to use every opportunity to love Christ and love people. That is the sum purpose of my life as Matthew 22 verse 37 through 38 describes. Loving people does not necessary have to be in context of believers only. Loving people means showing compassion and treating others how you want to be treated. This should be my main goal as I continue through this messy, confusing, yet overwhelming beauty of being single, and maybe if God gives me the opportunity to meet someone, the goal remains the same.

I posted my first video on Youtube!

I FINALLY got the guts to record my first video to upload to Youtube. Yay! I have wanted to do this for a while now, at least a year. One of the main reasons I wanted to establish some sort of Youtube presence is that I wanted to prove myself that I am not the "always shy" person I saw myself (and, to a certain extent, still do) for as long as I can remember. I wanted to be able to express in some form my feelings about the "growing up and moving out" process that I have been wracking my brain with. Having said this, I don't think that I have in any sense "arrived" at all, nor do I think I ever will. I am a firm believer of the concept of life as a constantly molding experience. This shows itself in the sort of things that I pursue as a hobby, or something that piques my interest in a way that may or may not be considered the typical or even, expected, path to becoming independent person I know I can and will be. I have been watching Youtube videos ever since I graduated high school in 2010. When I watch certain people on Youtube, and see how they, for lack of a better term, change, because they put themselves out to the entire world, it makes me think about my life and what things are changing me, and do people day to day, observe me, either consciously or subconsciously, and think, "Becca is a different person because of ________ ". This is not what motivates me to refine my skills and hobbies to share with the world. I believe that I have a purpose to live my life as me, not anyone else. As obvious as this sounds, it really is becoming one of the most difficult concepts to master. Starting a Youtube account and recording some videos of what I find interesting or things that I don't know much about is what I want to do for the rest of the year. I hope that through this pursuit, I can be a challenge for people who have "lost" themselves through masking someone they thought they were. I have already checked off a bucket list item by a) creating a blog and b) uploading a video that is posted above. I would really like to get to the point where I post every day or maybe at least once a week. I am pretty sure that there are many people in the world who are in the same life circumstance as me and I hope to connect with those people and re-connect with friends I've already made. :)

T.M.I. TAG!

This list of questions was from a Youtube video tag uploaded by Fleur DeForce. I thought it would be fun to give it a go even though there might be some overlap of questions from the previous set of questions.

THE QUESTIONS
1: What are you wearing? A purple wintery shirt with sparkly snowflakes, jeans, and slippers.
2: Ever been in love? No. Can't say that I have yet.
3: Ever had a terrible breakup? Nope (refer to previous question).
4: How tall are you? I am 5'7".
5: How much do you weigh? Uh....
6: Any tattoos? No, but if in a perfect world, they weren't horrible for you and they didn't hurt, then I would really like to get some sort of scripture or scriptural based tattoo to remind me of God's unchanging love.
7: Any piercings? Yes, I have my ear lobes pierced. I wanted to get another set right above them, but I never got around to doing it. Also, I really like the nose studs you can get, but I'm too scared to get one.
8: OTP? I'm actually not sure if this refers to just celebrities in the "real world" or if this is just an online thing. But I will have to say for the sake of Youtube-ness, Tanya&Jim.
9: Favorite show? Parenthood/Blue Bloods/Hawaii 5-0/NCIS/SYTYCD
10: Favorite bands? I am loving Imagine Dragons. Not sure if they are like favorite of all time, but they're in the top.
11: Something you miss? Volunteering at Camp Patmos '07-09. Of course there are so many other things I miss. This is just something I thought of first.
12: Favorite song? My current favorite song is Lego House - Ed Sheeran
13: How old are you? I am 23. Yesterday was my birfday (Intentional typo because it looks funny).
14: Zodiac sign? I can hardly believe I know this because I certainly don't follow it, but I'm an Aquarius.
15: Quality you look for in a partner? Sincerity, loyalty, compassion, joyfulness, patience, self control...
16: Favorite Quote? Well, my favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11. This is probably because I'm a self-proclaimed worrywart. Another one I really like is along those lines: Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened. I'm not really sure who said this originally.
17: Favorite actor? I don't have one favorite, but one I have seen some of his movies recently is
18: Favorite color? PURPLE.
19: Loud music or soft? I think both have their appropriate times. I tend to like each about the same.
20: Where do you go when you're sad? My room. I try to distract myself from my sadness and fix or organize something. That usually helps. Temporary...
21: How long does it take you to shower? On average, I'd say about 15 minutes. When I had a shorter haircut, it was more like 10 min or less.
22: How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? Ha. Well, this varies day by day. I don't really "get ready". But if I were actually getting up for something that I was doing that day, in a rush I would say 20 min. But if I were taking my leisurely time, it's more like half an hour.
23: Ever been in a physical fight? Nope.
24: Turn on? Someone who defends me in any kind of way.
25: Turn off? Swearing like a sailor...Is that really a thing? Are sailors really known for their foul language?
26: The reason I joined Youtube? The reason I "joined" Youtube was to explore my more creative side. And I also like visual arts. I haven't posted any videos yet of me, but I have created a few videos, with more hopefully to come with my face and/or voice.
27: Fears? Rejection by someone I trust. Everyone has that fear, right?
28: Last thing that made you cry? I think I cried happy tears watching proposals on Youtube yesterday.
29: Last time you said you loved someone? Yesterday. I told my mom.
30: Meaning behind your Youtube name? Well, my Youtube name is also my full name. Not much else to say. I guess I wasn't feeling very creative when I made it.
31: Last book you read? I would have liked to say Divergent, but I'm not quite done. The last book I actually did finish was Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I love this book. I have actually read it through twice.
32: The book you're currently reading? This answer applies to the last one: Divergent. I am also trying to finish The Kommandant's Girl, but this one is a library book so I have a time crunch.
33: Last show you watched? Last show I watched (at least most of it) was Downton Abbey with my mom.
34: Last person you talked to? My mom.
35: The relationship between you and the person you last texted? The last person I texted was a friend from work, so I guess a friend? Not exactly sure what is meant by relationship but oh well..
36: Favorite food? I am a carb lover, so really anything that is bread related, I am on it. Also I have a thing for chocolate.

37: Place you want to visit? It's currently a tie between Australia and the UK.
38: Last place you were? I was at a bible study at a friend's house.
39: Do you have a crush? Not currently...
40: Last time you kissed someone? This does not apply to me. Yet.
41: Last time you were insulted? Well, I took this situation as an insult although I don't think it was meant to be, but it was on Sunday.
42: Favorite flavor of sweet? I love chocolate! Especially dark chocolate...
43: What instruments do you play?? I don't play any. I used to play violin though.
44: Favorite piece of jewelry? Favorite piece currently are the sparkly bow earrings that look like something Kate Spade would have designed.
45: Last sport you played? Eh, I don't really play sports anymore. I used to play soccer.
46: Last song you sang? I'm pretty much always singing, so...I have been singing "Breaking the Law" by Emeli Sande.
47: Favorite chat up line? I'm assuming this question is like the UK version of a "pick-up" line. So, I don't really know any off the top of my head.
48: Have you ever used it? See previous question.
49: Last time you hung out with anyone? I think it was Wednesday We went to Tim Hortons woohoooo
50: Who should answer these questions next?  Well, since this applies more to the Youtuber world I'm not sure this question can be answered by me.

Hope this was just a little bit interesting!! I'm still working out the ins and outs of blogging so please bare with me.

A never-ending Q&A about me :)

Do you have any siblings?
Yes, I have three. Two brothers, and one sister (Older bro and sis, younger bro).
How old are you?
I'm 22.9999999999.... My birthday is in 4 days. Yay!
What's your height?
5'7"
What's your top/dress size?
I vary between a M and L. By the way, this is the most nosy question I've ever heard of.
Do you have any diet plans/tips?
1. Drink lots of water, more than you think you need.
2. Exercise in some capacity within reason (obviously, don't defy the natural laws of weather aka -degree weather for the sake of exercise) and vary your exercise. I used to do the same routine every time and I think I realized I wasn't losing weight was partly from my standard routine. Even if it is the same machines, vary the order.
Do you workout?
Yes, I try to at least. My goal is to work out a MINIMUM of two days a week and maybe an extra one if I am feeling extra ambitious. My dad and I are hopefully going to do a Spin and Lift class that starts in March. I also want to do a ZUMBA class again because it’s awesome. So that makes three days I definitely don’t have an excuse to go exercise regularly.
Do you have any pets?
No. At least not currently. I did have a guinea pig for a while. But it was a bit crazy and we took it back to the breeder ‘cause it was wild. I do hope to at least figure out what it would take to get my own cat this year. I’ve been researching none stop pretty much.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like listening to music, exploring the internet with all of its fascinations…When the weather becomes nice I like to go out and take pictures. I like to take walks at nature preserves and just relax, and what I like to call, de-junk.
Who inspires you?
Oh goodness. This is a hard question. I think my off-the-top-of-my-head response would be anyone who has come to the point in their life where they don’t let their insecurities about themselves stop them living out their lives and the things that excite them.
What do you feel is your greatest achievement?
I think my greatest achievement so far has been graduating from community college with an associate’s degree while earning honor cords.
What do you value most in life?
I value people who care about me as an individual and help bring out the best in me. As a more generic answer, I’d say the typical family and friends. Yeahhhhhh.
What do you do?
I currently have very low hours at “Mickey D’s”. Enough to get by for now, I suppose, until I find something more promising.
What is your dream job?
My dream job (money aside) would be either a) some sort of traveling job, b) working with children in some capacity, or c) helping underprivileged people in some way.
What classes did you take in college? (Modified question due to the UK nature of the question)
I got my associates of applied business so I took business classes, office classes, and other courses that were part of my degree.
Do you/did you make good grades?
Yes I did.
What is your ethnicity?
Caucasian?
Do you want to get married later on in life?
Yes I do. That time hasn’t come yet. But I can wait..
Do you have any phobias?
I think I have a few. One of them is being trapped in a tight space. (I realized after the fact that those hay/straw mazes they used to have at the heritage festival made me have anxiety..)
Have you ever had a near death experience?
Yes. I got hit by a semi. My car suffered a bit, but I’m ok. It shook me up a bit afterwards. I was almost in another one a couple years ago. Driver was running red light.
Do you get mad easily?
Nope. In fact, I tend to stifle my emotions, at least outwardly. Not a good decision. I might have a volcano of life’s worries explode in a very unfortunate situation.
Favorite childhood memory?
Favorite? That’s a hard one. First one I can think of is the family vacations we took to Michigan and NC.

Beauty/Shopping

Heels or flats?
Definitely a flat girl! I bought my first pair of heels though, but I only bought them for “professional occasions”. I wore them for a mock interview at school.
Favorite moisturizer?
Favorite one I’ve owned? I would say Curel. It’s consistently my favorite non-smell moisturizer/lotion. As far as lotion with fragrance, I REALLY love the Sensual Amber lotion at Bath and Body Works.
Where do you buy most of your clothes from?
Walmart and occasionally Kohls, JcPenney’s or VERY rarely Sears.
Favorite Store?
Don’t really have a favorite. I like a lot of stuff at Kohls but their prices are a bit of a splurge even in the sales.
Favorite makeup brand?
Maybelline and sometimes Rimmel.
Favorite drugstore makeup brand?
Same as above, seeing that I don’t purchase high-end makeup products (availability+price). If I had to purchase something, I would go for Urban Decay or MAC.
Favorite nail polish brand?
Whatever is the cheapest but still the best quality for the money. I have a variety in my current collection. As far as brand in general, I reaaally like Essie. I’ve heard they're worth the extra dollars.
Show us your favorite dress...
I don’t have any pictures to show or link. But it’s a rayon-type fabric and it’s purple. Of course.
What was your first makeup item?
First real item? Not that Bonne Bell stuff? I think my very first one that I can remember is probably a Covergirl eyeshadow.
If you had your own makeup line what would you call it?
Ha. I don’t have the creative gene when it comes to that sort of thing.
What are you into the most, if you HAD to choose one: jewelry, makeup, shoes, or clothes?
Makeup. Although I’m nowhere near an expert.
How do you organize all your jewelry/accessories?
I don’t really have any kind of organization, other than keeping them away from dirt/dust on my dresser. I plan to buy some sort of jewelry organizer in the near future.
What is your favorite shoe store?
I buy most of my shoes at Payless, so I guess that makes it my favorite. Their prices are usually pretty reasonable.
At what age did you start wearing makeup?
I think around 14 or 15.
Do you wear falsies? If so which brand?
Nope. Never have, never will probably. I will stick to just mascara.
Lipgloss or mascara?
Mascara. Although lipgloss is a close second.
What’s your worst shopping habit?
Going over my at-one-store spending budget I created for myself for no particular reason.
Do you have a signature scent?
Well I tend to like scents that aren’t overly sweet, and maybe a bit spicy or floral-y.
How do you take care of your hair?
I wash my hair every time I shower but I always use conditioner along with my shampoo (which is supposed to help with hair growth). I don’t use any kind of heat styling tool (dryer, straightener, or curler). I put leave-in conditioners as well.
What’s the color of your natural hair & highlights?
My hair is a "dirty" blonde/light brown color.
What are your views on plastic surgery?
I tend to have a more negative view on plastic surgery for personal "primping" reasons. However, I think there is something to be said about maul victims or any kind of abuse victims.
If makeup somehow wasn't invented (:O) what would you replace it with?
Ha, this is an interesting question. I would maybe try using natural items, like mud for bronzer, clay for eyeshadow or blush....Seems very primitive but ya know...Gotta make use of what you have.
Do you bite your nails?
No but I have a habit of cleaning underneath my nails with my own nails.
I am too impatient to do all of the official manicure technique.

Other/Random

Would you rather grow a beard or go bald?
Definitely beard, because hair removal is SO much easier than hair growth!! especially on the scalp!
If you could know the date you were going to die, would you want to know?
Eh, that's a tough one. I think if I knew a range of years I would say yes but not the particular day.
Which five male celebs would be on your "list"?
Really not sure about this one...Only one I can think of is Morgan Freeman. There's tons of others but I really want to meet him one day.
If you only had 24 hours to live how would you spend it?
Sharing my thoughts on life and how many people take YOLO to the extreme and don't take time to "smell the roses". Slow down. Life moves fast but not THAT fast. And also I would do something adventurous myself and try to accomplish as many bucket list items as I could.
If you were a cannibal, what would you wear to dinner?
What a strange question..Maybe...camouflage of some sort? But then again, what would that be accomplishing? Double standard, eh?
Do you have a favorite book?
No. This question is impossible to answer just one. Unless I just give a cop-out answer and say The Bible.
What is your favorite tv show?

Parenthood/Blue Bloods/NCIS/Hawaii 5-0
Do you make Youtube videos? And if so, of what nature? If not, why not?
I have made and uploaded three videos on Youtube, two of which are picture slideshows, the other quotes in marquee form. I hope to soon be brave enough to record myself in some manner or even just anything more than like 10 seconds worth to prove to myself that I can put myself out in public and not despise myself for it.
What is your favorite type of sandwich?
I love any type of sandwich with homemade bread. That's kind of a rarity around here anymore, so I would say something with nice quality cheese, preferably sharp, and good deli meat that isn't slimey. I also have been loving the classic breakfast sandwich i.e. egg, cheese, and biscuit.
Do you have a Xanga account?
I used to! Wow...that was really back in the day...I tried to resurrect my blog but I couldn't access it anymore. I guess I cancelled it or it got deactivated. I had it for a year or two I think.
What is your favorite reality tv show?
So You Think You Can Dance in the summer. I used to be a crazy 'Idol watcher. I kinda lost interest a couple seasons ago.
What wesbite do you visit the most besides Youtube & Facebook?
Ha.Not much. I think Pinterest is next on the list.
Who is your favorite blogger?
I really like the UK bloggers: Zoella, Louise, Fleur, Sami, Tanya, Estee (although she's technically not British...)
Who is your favorite makeup guru?
Oh gosh...This list never ends...Again, same as above + Judy (itsjudytime) Kandee (kandeejohnson) April (aprilathena7)...

How do you/will you make your blog interesting?
Making it reflect me and only me. Also adding some pictures here and there, and some diatribes of my day and thoughts on life stuff. Hopefully that will interest someone?
Do you like photography?
Yes! I've taken some really nice ones so far.
Can you show us some of the photos that you're proud of?
Here's one of my favorite nature pictures:

What is your fave style to decorate your bedroom, chic, modern, vintage..etc?
To be honest, I'm not really sure what any of these look like, but I'm going to go with shabby chic. I like the casual style.
Do you like stationary?
Yes! I haven't bought legit stationary pages but I really want to start a collection of some sort! I"m not really sure where to find some good ones. Any suggestions?
Are you into ghost hunting?
Nope. Not my thing.
What is your favorite Disney/Pixar film?
I think this is another impossible question, so I will name the top 3 first to think of: Beauty and the Beast, Lady and the Tramp, and UP. But seriously though, this question...This is a trick question, somehow.
What's your favorite desert?
Pretty much anything chocolate. And cheesecake.
Do you like swimming?
Yeah, but I've had some bad memories with swimming so I tend to avoid the swimming scene.
Do you drink juice?
Yes. Although it's hard to find good juice that's satisfying but not overly sweet or lacking in flavor. I love Pomegranate Blueberry. I forget the brand.
What's your favorite movie?
What is with these incredibly impossible questions? Again, I'd have to just say a few that I can think of quickly: LOTR series (technically more than one, but I will count it as one) and Toy Story 3. Oh, and Monsters Inc. I cry EVERY time.
Do you eat fries with a fork?
Nope. I think even with loaded fries, I'd try to eat them messily with my fingers until I give up.
Do you like cookies?
Ohhhh yes. I don't think there are any that I don't care for. Oh. Except oatmeal raisin because I'm not fond of raisins. I love the oatmeal part though.
If you could move anywhere, where would it be?
Somewhere with a moderate temperature all year long, and that would satisfy me. And no major threat to my safety too.
Savory or sweet?
Sweet :)
If you had to describe yourself as a fruit, what fruit would you be?
I think a pineapple because it blends with both savory and sweet dishes.
Favorite flower?
Iris. And roses are a close second.
Favorite color?
Purple...Duhhhhh.
Do you drink energy drinks?
I have had one or two in the past but I don't drink them chronically.
Do you drink coffee?
Yes. More than I should, but oh well.
If you could have a dinner party with 5 celebrities, dead or alive, who would you invite?
Ha. How about..Mandela. Lucille Ball. Can't think of any more.

Hope this gives you more insight into the person I am, or the person I think I am. And congratulations for making it all the way to the end of this never ending get-to-know-me page.

An old picture of me to test photo upload for future OOTD/FOTDs!

Tada! I finally did it!

My very first blog post! Yay!
And just because I’m way too excited not to test out the bells and whistles on this very first blog post, here’s a slideshow video that I created on my very old Youtube account. I can hardly believe it has 1K+ views now! Insane!
David Archuleta’s journey to the finale!
*Edit
Just realized this isn’t the one that has 1K views. It’s this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gk_I4M69Nnk
